It’s the start of a new trading week but the markets just keep on going up. The reasons are obvious. We keep getting positive signs from all over the world that the global recession is now almost over. Today has been no different in that respect.

In the UK confidence amongst business professionals rose to 4.8 in a recent survey which is in stark contrast to a few months ago when it was at -28.2. Elsewhere in Europe the latest figures show that industrial new orders rose by 3.1% last month which is 1.4% better than analysts were expecting (and much better than the previous month’s figure of -0.5%).

Combine this with Ben Bernanke’s recent comments that the US economy is showing signs of recovery and it’s easy to see why there is so much optimism around at the moment.

Here’s the latest snapshot of the markets:

FTSE 100 - 4897.40 (+0.96%)
CAC 40 - 3655.28 (+1.09%)
DAX - 5522.25 (+1.09%)
Dow Jones - 9575.11 (+0.73%)
S&P 500 - 1034.92 (+0.86%)
Nasdaq - 2034.19 (+0.66%)
